Odds on James Horan to be the next Donegal boss slashed after a 'flurry of bets'

The former Mayo boss is the new favourite.

A LEADING IRISH bookmakers has slashed the odds on former Mayo manager James Horan to become the next Donegal football manager after a flurry of bets were placed on him on Monday.

Horan, who stepped down as Mayo manager after they were knocked out by current All-Ireland champions Kerry in the semi-finals after a replay, was initially installed at 33/1 on Saturday following the news that Jim McGuinness was stepping down.

However, he is now the 11/4 favourite with Boylesports.

Damien Diver and Rory Gallagher – who were the 9/4 favourites prior to the gamble on Horan – have both been eased out to 7/2 with Declan Bonner 5/1 after being initially 2/1.

Liam Glynn, PR Executive at Boylesports said:

“We laid numerous bets at 33/1 on James Horan and then laid him at 10/1 and 5/1 and as the demand continued we had to cut him into the 11/4 favourite.

“The bets were all placed in our border county shops and now as it stands, James Horan is the worst result in the book for Boylesports.”

Some, however, are sceptical that Horan will get the job:
